Welcome to Literacy Layer! I’m Liana Levinson and I love language, literacy, and learning. Also alliteration (see what I did there?!).
Speech-Language Pathologists (S-LPs) are uniquely qualified to deliver literacy intervention because verbal comprehension and expression lay the foundation for reading and writing. Literacy is one layer within the broader scope of language skills that support communication, learning, and academic success. Our expertise in child language development allows us to identify and address underlying communication challenges that can affect literacy development. Many children with speech and/or oral communication difficulties also struggle with reading and writing.
With several years of experience working within public schools, we bring a deep understanding of Ontario curriculum expectations, public school policies, and the language and literacy demands of classroom learning. This allows us to align our intervention with current teaching practices and target the specific skills children need to thrive at school.
Literacy Layer is an affirming space where all children are respected, encouraged, and celebrated for who they are. Connection is an integral part of our holistic approach. We consider each child’s interests, executive functioning skills, sensory preferences, and social-emotional well-being to optimize engagement and learning.
